I don't really have a very good excuse for being away for so long. We got back from Europe on the 24th of August, I got my walking papers from work the same day, and my last day for the employer for which I had worked the hardest and longest ended on August 31st. Since then, I have been unemployed and laying low, not returning phone calls and being in a general malaise, which included plenty of depression. I really don't like being unemployed. Though the unemployment was expected (that's why more than half of the company left before the axe fell), I was still incredibly disappointed with the way I was let down. No one would give us any information about where our jobs would be before I left for Europe, at least no information that would be of any use to us, so I refused to even worry about it. I was incredibly busy working my arse off for those people and at the same time busy packing and busy trying to figure out where my life was going.
Today I am feeling better. And though I am writing this from my bed, just having woke up a half-hour ago with a neckache and unshowered since Sunday, I think today might actually be a good day. A day where I get something done. I just wish I knew what it was currently so I would have someplace to start.
Being in Europe was a lot of fun, but like I have said before, a more beneficial holiday would have been much different, and would have included far fewer planes, trains, and automobiles. The trip was too short and too jam-packed with travel (taking the wrong tollway to Lourdes), adventure (someone putting unleaded in our very much diesel car), and sight-seeing (one hour at Rennes le Chateau - fun!). I guess I'm currently getting the holiday I wanted - more time in bed, no waking up at 4am to catch a plane, no 2-hour taxi rides, and no lugging gallons of water up a massive hill in pouring rain -- twice.
Most importantly, I got to see Italy for my first time. We were in Firenze for a few days, and out of those 3 miniscule days, Ben and I got in a ton of walking and looking and fun-making. We missed the Accademia, where Michaelangelo's David resides, but we saw a rather large and creepy group of Mormons singing hymns or something right next to David's twin at the Piazza Vecchio. I'll never forget the Children-of-the-Corn-looking guy leaving the group to walk slowly up to gawkers to draw out a "Buuuooonnnnaaa Seeerrrraaa" that gave me goosepimples all over.
And that, right there, was the highlight of the trip. I should have some photos up soon, as soon as Ben gives them to me, as I didn't take any pictures at all. This is the laziness that shows itself when one has a photographer for a partner.
lol Well at least you can say you certainly had an experience. :P
You didn't mention, but are you out looking for another jeorb yet? If so, good luck on the hunt, and if not, you lucky dog, you! ;)
How's the bun doing btw?
