I’m moving. I didn’t want to jinx the opportunity too much by blabbing about the most perfect apartment ever here (unlike in rt, when I talk about it to anyone that will stand still long enough). So, last night, it was made official by the signing of the lease and the paying of the deposit. I know I did mention the apartment in the October 15th post, but I really didn’t get in to how amazingly awesome this apartment is… which I still won’t get in to. I mean, what’s the point of talking the talk if you don’t have pictures?
So, I’m kind of freaking out a bit. Now that everything is actually official, and I know that I’m going to be moving in 4 ½ short weeks, it all seems like it’s happening too quickly. Since I haven’t moved more than 5’ in the past 4+ years, it’s starting to seem like an extremely daunting task to say the least. And, since we’ve been so stagnant for the past 4 years, things have… well… piled up. Numerous trips abroad have resulted in an eclectic mix of Egyptian, European, Australian, and Israeli knickknacks, books, etc., as well as the Japanese and other Asian-influenced things I’ve had for a while that were mostly purchased online. Normally one would think that such a motley collection would clash, but it surprisingly (mostly) does not. The hard thing is keeping the cat from frolicking about in the masses of scarabs and blown glass.
Since we are getting rid of a lot of our furniture (hideous early-90’s San Diego-style living room set, best suited for retirees in Florida), we’re going to have to figure out where all of these little collectables are going to go until we find appropriate housing for them, which I’m assuming is just going to be in the storage room. There’ll be a good week after we move in and get the normal stuff unpacked where the house will be minimalist, and I’ll feel at peace… until we unpack the stuff. Sighing abounds.
As for other things, I’m really quite excited for Halloween this year, as I’ve created my costume (mostly) myself, with help from my friend Amychan, who is a sewing-machine whiz. I also owe some props to my friend Renie, who gave me her sewing machine, as I’m sure she just kind of got sick of it. Pictures of the costume will be forthcoming, albeit after Halloween.
minimalist is what i aim for, scavenger is what i end up being.
